Villa Maria Cristina

This was the worst part of our stay. The bathroom was dirty when we arrived, and the A/C barely worked. It was so loud I couldn't sleep. There are a lot of stairs just to reach the room, and the walk to the old town takes more than 25 minutes uphill. Traffic was so bad that getting an Uber took over 15 minutes. We paid $250 a night, which felt way overpriced. Dear Klaus, the reservation was under my husband's name and the issue was escalated to the manager. We still have one more night here, and I'm unhappy with the “solution”: an upgrade to another room with an equally stained bathroom and worn furnishings.

Getting into town is easy, just a short walk to the center. The hotel itself is lovely, with plenty of space, beautiful rooms, and nice amenities. The staff were professional and helpful.

We stayed from 8/29-9/1/2025, hoping to get some rest, but the noise from upstairs on 8/30 was awful. Around 10:30 pm, we could hear and feel footsteps, loud voices, and what sounded like furniture moving. The floor was shaking. We heard at least two women and one man. After putting up with it for an hour, we went to the front desk at 11:30 pm. They couldn't confirm how many people were in the room because the male guest only opened the door a little, which made no sense to us. The next morning, we saw the guests checking out. They were a family of three, a husband, wife, and child. We're pretty sure there had been more adults there, including more women. I'm not sure what the hotel's policy is about letting non-guests come to rooms to party. I paid for a place to sleep. If guests can invite friends over to party, how is this supposed to work? It felt more like a party house than somewhere to rest.

The rooms at Villa María Cristina are roomy and thoughtfully designed, and the service was impeccable. It has a lovely, homey feel even with all the luxury around you. A charming blend of historic style and modern comfort, and a memorable place to stay in Guanajuato.
