It’s such a peaceful spot, with greenery all around and a lovely place to unwind. The staff looked after us well and were helpful about what we needed. There’s a kitchen, but if breakfast is part of your stay, plan your day ahead since there aren’t many options at the hacienda yet. The pool was full, though they had cleaned it after flowers from the nearby trees fell in, so it wasn’t dirty.

Let them know ahead of time if you’re planning to visit, since the place isn’t always open. It’s an old hacienda now run like an Airbnb-style hotel, with very friendly staff and rooms that seem comfortable.

The property looked neglected, and when problems came up the staff didn’t seem able to resolve them. The room and bathroom were dirty, with dead insects and even used soap, and the pool was filthy, with algae and debris floating in it. There was no restaurant, so we had to go into town to eat. The breakfast included in our reservation was never provided. There was nobody to cook, and the manager said he had no money to buy food. The website gives the impression that the Hacienda is in perfect shape and offers lots of amenities and services, but that wasn’t true. It’s a shame, because the place used to be beautiful and needs a lot of attention.

The church built in front of the hacienda remained as a quiet witness to the battle a hundred years ago, when hundreds of people died. The site was built in 1588 and was the setting for two bloody clashes. It burned to ashes both times, once in 1843 during the so-called Caste War, and again in 1915, when soldiers and landowners seeking to annex Yucatán to England fought the federal army of Venustiano Carranza.

A fantastic experience at an authentically restored hacienda!
