Hotel Las Nubes Holbox

I went on my own for 6 days and felt so well looked after. The grounds are beautiful, the beach and its colours are unreal, and the staff were kind, friendly, and really helpful. I loved being away from the noise in such a peaceful, natural place. I felt very safe on the island, too. The town is about a 20-minute walk or a 150 P taxi ride. I walked most of the time, though sometimes got tired; getting there by beach, road, or a mix of both is easy. I thought bikes were available, but they’re actually for rent. I took a yoga class one morning and was glad it was offered. The hotel provides bug spray, which I’d recommend for yoga, though I didn’t need it at any other time, even with my windows open. The hotel is right in front of the famous sandbar, and you can walk along the whole thing. I even saw flamingoes in the off-season, a lovely surprise. Las Nubes has friendly staff and unbeatable views. If you can, I’d go for an ocean view or a second-floor room.

The room was spacious, clean, and comfortable, and we unexpectedly had a view of the ocean. The beach club was lovely, with good food, and the facilities were good overall. We didn’t eat in the restaurant. The setting is quiet, natural, and calming, with easy access to the ocean and the sandbank walk to punta mosquito. Town took about 30 minutes on foot and got a bit tiring, though you can hail a taxi or hire bikes. Service was fine overall, but I thought it could have been a little friendlier and more professional. Holbox island is a lovely place to relax, with plenty of bars and restaurants to choose from. We loved seeing the raccoons and iguanas, which were never a nuisance at the hotel. I’d highly recommend it.

Our garden-view room was nice, with a comfortable bed and a good balcony. The website pictures are representative. It’s not modern, but perfectly decent. The hotel is right in front of the kitesurfing spot, about 20 minutes on foot from the nearest store or the start of downtown, and a 7-10 minute taxi ride from downtown. The staff across the restaurant, gardens, housekeeping, beach club, and hosting were all great and made our stay enjoyable. The restaurant is good too, and the octopus on the lunch menu is a must!

The food and drinks were the highlight for us. The ceviche was incredibly fresh and zesty, perfect for a hot-day lunch; the cocktails were refreshing and seemed to use quality ingredients; and the steak tacos were a standout, so don’t skip them. The water was crystal clear and free of seaweed, giving the whole view a postcard feel. It was a gem for a beach day on Isla Holbox, with a laid-back atmosphere, friendly service, and unmatched vibes. Highly recommended for a premium beach experience without the seaweed hassle!
