Cabañas Casa Maya Holbox Frente Al Mar

We spent four delightful days in one of the casitas, just a block from the beach. The room was spacious and clean, with a great shower and A/C. Out front there was a nice place to sit under the palm trees. Osvaldo and Nabor were fantastic hosts and helped us get bicycles.

The neighboring hotel and bar play loud music, too. When we brought up the mismatch at the welcome desk, the expressionless person told us, “If you’re not happy you can cancel your reservation.” I changed hotels after five minutes of trying to bargain. Don’t trust the pictures. Like me, you may be looking on Maps for a nice beachfront hotel on this wonderful island and be impressed by one. But this hotel’s description is misleading: there’s no sea view or even garden view. The bedroom is just a bed surrounded by four white walls, bare light bulbs without lampshades, and a window facing the street. There’s no direct beach access either, because a bar is in front.

The toilet and showers were very clean, and the bathroom was quite okay. But the separate camping area was definitely one of the worst camping spots I’ve ever stayed at. The bar was not even 10 meters from my tent, people partied until 7 in the morning, and drunk people walked between the tents. I couldn’t sleep at all. The WiFi is very bad.

The club nearby played loud music for four straight days, so I couldn’t sleep at night. I’m glad my stay is over. Casa Maya is the worst hotel in the world. The rooms are ugly and uncomfortable, and it’s not beachfront. The service at the barbarrosa bar was horrible. The Colombian waiter was very rude and racist. You have to be young and speak English to be treated well, otherwise forget it. This “hotel” is a joke. Don’t trust the advertising, it’s all a lie.
