Hotel Boutique La Puerta Azul Beachfront - Adults Only

The rooms were spacious and very clean, and breakfast on the beach was our highlight. The hotel is in a quiet area a little way from the center, with direct access to the beach. We had a great stay on Holbox and would definitely go back.

The hotel has seen better days. The rooftop can’t be used, and the stairs are closed off. At most, I’d call it a 2-3 star hotel. The beds and pillows are small and hard, the pool is like a kids’ wading pool and not really usable, and the WiFi is terrible. The massage on the beach was excellent, though.

The staff were warm and helpful throughout, and they arranged taxis and tours for us that all worked out great. If we return to Holbox, we’ll definitely stay at Puerta Azul again. We liked being a little away from the nightlife, about a 20-minute walk down the beach from the center. Punta Coco and its bioluminescent bay are also about a 20-minute beach walk away. The beach is gorgeous and just steps from the hotel, and we spent lots of time relaxing in the shaded chairs at the comfortable beach club. Breakfast was amazing: you get a menu item, coffee, bread, fresh fruit, and fresh juice, with generous portions. We had dinner at the beach restaurant once and enjoyed the food, and got drinks there most nights. There was a nice mix of music, including a live DJ one night. Our room was large and clean, with daily maid service available if you want it. The shower had good hot water, the AC worked well, and filtered water was available at reception. A small table in the room would’ve been nice. The pool was a good place to cool off after a hot day.

It’s a bit of a walk into town, so I’d suggest taking a taxi back at night for $200mx. The room was clean and comfortable, and everyone on staff was super nice. The beach bar serves decent food and has a great sunset view.
