Villas Margaritas Hotel & Villas

The staff were great and very supportive, especially Mitch at the front desk, who helped us arrange a bioluminescence tour. The hotel is just 20 m from the beach and about a 10 minute walk to the main part of town, with restaurants and stores. Our room was huge because it was the only one available that weekend, with four beds, so it would be nice for a family of two adults and two kids. For what we paid, the hotel was OK, as long as you don't have high expectations. It was my first time on the island, and the rate felt worthwhile given the location. Island hotel prices are generally above average compared with other tourist towns in Yucatan, though Holbox is in Quintana Roo State. The full breakfast package was $10 usd per person and worth getting, since there isn't a rate with breakfast included.

It's about a 10 minute walk downtown, with restaurants and coffee shops nearby. The staff are incredibly friendly, and the beach is just steps away, so we didn't need the hotel pool. They gave us beach towels for our stay too. The property hasn't been renovated, so it has a rustic feel, but that's fine: everything is clean, functional, and in great condition. The bed and pillows were super comfortable.

Michelle and Jair were especially friendly and helpful, and went out of their way to make me feel welcome. My room was clean, spacious, and had everything I needed. The hotel is very close to the beach and an easy walk into the centro. I had a great stay and look forward to visiting again soon.

The room looked like the pictures and was in good condition, though a little dated. The reception man who greeted me was extremely kind and went out of his way to connect me with tours after mine was cancelled. The hotel tells you to use WhatsApp for requests, but communication there was poor and help was hard to get. I messaged to ask where I could leave my luggage after checkout and got no response. At the front desk, the girl was chatting and joking with a coworker instead of paying attention to the work phone. Later, while walking back to the hotel, I messaged for a taxi so it would be ready in time for my ferry. Again, she was joking with coworkers beside the phone and not responding. When I said hello and asked for help with the taxi, she called one without apologizing or saying anything to me. That was my personal experience with this staff member, but customer service matters when you're away from home and relying on people to provide a service. I felt my needs came second to joking around, and for that reason I wouldn't return. No thank you.
