I felt safe and looked after as a woman traveling on my own, and I’m so grateful to the people at Hotel La Joya. The staff were wonderful about helping me get taxis, and they were patient with my tiny bit of Spanish while speaking English themselves. They even helped with all my needs throughout the stay. The hotel is cozy and quaint, with lovely Mexican style, colorful tile, bright colors, welcoming grounds, and plants everywhere. I loved the pool and pool area, and the deck facing the ocean. The rocky beach was beautiful too. The food was delicious, and there were enough places to eat within walking distance that I didn’t get bored. The walk to Punta Sur and the park was delightful. I came for a solo retreat and can’t say enough good things about the stay. If you want charm and wonderful hospitality in a boutique-like hotel with what you need, I highly recommend it.

The food was great, and it’s really close to the ruins. I also loved the pool and the little cove swing by the shore. The hotel is beautiful, with updated amenities. It isn’t a luxury resort, but it’s a pretty, cozy boutique place.

We stayed in the second week of October 2025, and the hotel exceeded our expectations. It’s a relaxing escape for couples, away from everyday life. Breakfast arrived on our balcony every morning, and every room has a hammock and a beautiful view. We walked to Punta Sur in about 14 minutes and rented snorkeling gear from the hotel, where we saw lots of fish. For calmer water, Kin Ha Beach Club was a four-minute walk away, one hotel over. This is on the south end of the Island, away from the popular tourist area, so we rented a golf cart to get to the north side.

We just finished a week at Hotel La Joya, and the customer service was wonderful. Reception helped with cabs and recommendations, and even helped us with a forgotten passport. They provide filtered water in the lobby and bar. The hotel has character, great views, and a cozy, home-away-from-home feel, though there are stairs. If you want somewhere off the beaten path, this is it.

We chose the hotel because you can snorkel right from it on a reef, and it was just what we hoped for. The place is beautiful, full of character, and the staff were attentive. Chef Juan cooked the dorado we caught on a fishing trip. The ceviche was the best we’ve ever had, and the next night he made it into a local specialty. Best meal of our vacation. Breakfast was delicious too, and the coffee was great.
