The beach and location near town are hard to beat, and the staff made this another great visit. Genovani was a cheerful, personable presence at the beach bar, while Agustina kept our room clean and turned it around quickly. This was our second stay at Sunscape Dorado Pacifico Ixtapa, and we just got back from 14 nights there. It isn't a five-star resort, but the price feels fair for what you get. We'd happily return.

The evening shows were enjoyable for every age, and there was plenty of choice at the buffets and snack bars. I traveled alone as a woman and felt completely safe. My room was very clean, and the staff were friendly and quick to help. Miguel and everyone at de Mario in-house Italian restaurant were especially lovely, and I still remember the food. For a relaxing break in a beautiful setting, I highly recommend it.

Watching the sun go down over the water each evening was our favorite part. We also appreciated the VIP areas available through Hyatt Globalist status. My husband and I stayed for five nights, and the staff's thoughtful attention, including anniversary surprises like a cake delivered to us, made it memorable. Our room was spotless and cleaned every day, and we enjoyed the food across the different dining options. We'd love to come back.

The food was a letdown throughout, with buffet dishes that all tasted alike, and the hot dogs and hamburgers at the noon snack station were cold. Bacon was scarce, and the raw pile set by the grill never seemed to cook before breakfast was over. The pickleball started at 7:30 in the morning and woke people up. In our room, the floor stayed dirty all week, and the lobby even had a raccoon running up the wall into a gap between floors. We asked repeatedly for coffee cups and soap, but went all week without either. We were limited to two water bottles a day, and the minibar got only two beers for the whole week. Most staff either didn't understand English or acted as if they didn't, perhaps to avoid having to work. We've stayed at this same resort five times, and Ixtapa is still wonderful, but Sunscape has gone badly downhill. This visit felt like a waste of money. Hilton should be embarrassed. There's no excuse beyond poor customer service, and we won't return.

Our biggest disappointment came on our daughter's last full day, when she got sick and was projectile vomiting. I called the front desk for fresh bedding, but it never arrived. We also asked for saltine crackers for her and were told the restaurant was closed and food couldn't be taken out. After a third trip to the desk to plead for room service or anything to eat, another staff member arranged to bring food up so we could keep our baby in the room. That was some redemption, but we had to fight for it. We chose the resort because it was advertised as family friendly, yet children under three were excluded from the splash park, kids' area, and outdoor shaded kids' space. They could use the four-foot-deep pool, apparently. Some restaurants also don't allow children, and we only found that out after arriving and being turned away, despite choosing the hotel for its advertised dining options. You can't take food from the dining areas, which made things especially hard with little kids. Room service costs extra, has a small menu, and offers nothing kid friendly. The hotel looks worn, including its furniture and pillows, and the patio furniture was lackluster. Service was impeccable except at the store beside the spa. Our daughter needed a nap in the room each day, which kept overlapping with the maid's visit. The room then went uncleaned for four days until my husband asked the front desk for sheets and a broom. We were willing to manage it ourselves, but a simple fix somehow became a ridiculous drama, and I'm sure the poor maid got blamed.
