Beautiful location and good food, but the cleaning and upkeep need work. When we arrived, the pillowcases and hand towel were dirty, and there were big stains on the bed sheets. Staff changed the dirty items, but that shouldn't happen at check-in. During our stay, it would've been nice if they cleaned the bathroom sink, counter and washroom when servicing the room. The safe didn't work and nobody came to repair it. Water was shut off during the night, and the AC ran from 9 pm to 7 am. Ocean view rooms can be very noisy when wind and waves are rough, which may be hard for light sleepers. A busload of guests came for a birthday party and took over the whole resort for a day and overnight. The hotel needs better cleaning and maintenance.

Ventanas Al Mar is a quiet, rustic and beautiful spot, with so few rooms for such a lovely place. I think the ocean on this side of the island is usually rough, though we were lucky to get a few calm days and swim in clear water. The conditions aren't reasons to lower the hotel's rating, but it's good to adjust your vacation expectations so you can enjoy this unique location. (Photos from April 2023) You need a rental car to get around this side, or pre scheduled transfers, since there are no taxis. Bring cash in pesos for places besides Ventanas. There are no ATMs, and places like Coconuts may not take cards. Cell service is limited or absent, so there's only WiFi. Generators mean A/C and hot water don't run during the day. For food, there's Ventanas Al Mar and Coconuts, unless you drive back to town or to other beach bars, which tend to close early. Swimming may not be possible if the water is too rough or there's too much seaweed, since this is the Atlantic side. There's no coffee maker in the room, so you have to leave it to get a carafe of coffee in the morning and enjoy it while watching the sun come up.

There's not much to "do" on this SLOWER side of the island, and it took me a while to get used to that. What it does have is an INCREDIBLE amount of natural beauty, and I highly recommend this hotel. The service was excellent, attentive and friendly, and they really treated us like family. I'd get the breakfast option, and all the meals were excellent. Highly recommend, and I'd stay again.

We had an absolutely fabulous stay and will definitely be back. The spacious, clean room and incredible view were matched by excellent service and wonderful food. The bar next-door was a really good time too. If you're hoping to get away from the cruise ship side of the island and enjoy Mexico's beauty, this is the place.

The beach felt like our own private escape, and with snorkel gear we could swim and explore right from shore. We spent four relaxing nights in bliss, with an ocean view from every room. Service was impeccable, the restaurant was fantastic, and breakfast especially still has me dreaming about it. This hidden gem on the east side of the island is a true utopia, with incredible potential to elevate its exclusivity. It takes a car to get here because it's far from the ferry terminal, and WiFi is limited to the restaurant area. I had to work for a couple of days, so I set up in the lobby, though the coconut trees, iguanas and stunning beach views made it hard to concentrate. I'd definitely come back and recommend it for a relaxing vacation.
