Hotel Real de Minas Bajio

We ended up booking here at 1 a.m. after problems with the Airbnb we'd reserved. The staff were friendly and helpful. They said we could take a room upstairs or a smoking room, and offered to let us check the smoking room before paying. There was barely any smell, so we chose it. The beds weren't great, but that didn't bother us. For the price and service, it's hard to beat.

The staff were helpful, the rooms were a decent size and well arranged, and everything seemed pretty clean. I stayed around four days, mainly to sleep, with the occasional breakfast. While I was there, breakfast came down to about three choices: yogurt fruit salad, cereal, or Mexican sweet bread. They were all good, but the selection was very limited. The poolside view was nice enough, though nothing special. Wi-Fi and TV reception were both unreliable, so mobile data is probably the better bet. I also asked the front desk to open a security box for some important documents. The clerk got a manager, but they still couldn't open one for me. Late at night, some hallway lights were sometimes off, which gave the place a spooky feel. The shower pressure could be better, though I had no trouble getting hot water, despite what several other reviews said. I'd recommend it for a short, budget stay if you mainly need somewhere safe to sleep.

We came with a large group for a sports event, and everyone had different room requests. The hotel helped arrange what we needed. It’s easy to get to, with free parking and malls and restaurants nearby. The rooms were clean and a good size, and there’s a pool, a small gym area, and cable TV. The staff were friendly and tried to help. I liked the bar decor, and the restaurant was a comfortable place to sit, though its hours are limited and the food was just okay. The pillows weren't soft. They say there's room service, but there wasn't, and they don't offer laundry service either. Basic Wi-Fi is free, but it wasn't good enough for conference calls.

My family loved staying here!
