La Regional

An easy, affordable place to stop on a Baja California road trip. Booking was simple, and the room had hot water. When you get there, call the number on the gate and the owner comes to let you in within about five minutes. There's also a local restaurant within walking distance if you don't feel like driving on for dinner.

We paid 1,100 pesos a night for a room with two beds. There was no TV, but the AC was amazing. The bungalows sit in a small fenced area just outside town on Highway 1, and the property is dog friendly. We loved having the outdoor space to ourselves, along with the chickens hanging around. I didn't try the restaurant and wasn't looking for food there. Some shelves or a desk for luggage would help, but we had a great time.

The attached restaurant made a delicious breakfast, and the staff were friendly and helpful. The room and grounds were very clean, though the room itself was extremely basic. The bed was hard, and the pillow covers matched the bedspread in a strange way, so we used our sleep sacks and blankets. There were no hooks, shelves, or anywhere to hang things, which left us putting everything on the floor. We arrived after dark and couldn't find the motel until someone drove out to meet us and lead us there. It's right on Highway 1, so the beach is some distance away if you're walking.

The friendly, courteous service and a great price made this a wonderful surprise during our visit to Loreto. We liked the cabin-style rooms, which were comfortable and well equipped, and it was reassuring to have secure parking inside. The restaurant was excellent too, with the best breakfast you could ask for. I'd definitely recommend it.
