California Comfort and Suites

I haven’t even arrived yet, but I’m already grateful to these people. I’d paid for a room and was meant to get there late tonight, just before the border closed. Then I missed my flight, and I won’t reach Yuma until midnight, after the border shuts. I called to explain that I’d sleep at the airport and cross into Los Algodones at 6:00am when it opens. I figured showing up at 6:00am to check in for a room booked for today would be a problem. They told me the room would be mine whenever I got there. That’s such a relief. I can’t imagine that happening in the States, where I think they’d give away the room, make me book again, charge me for both reservations, and still keep me from checking in until 3:00pm. So, so grateful!

The rooms are clean, the staff are courteous, and the price is very reasonable. If you’re going to Las Algodones, it’s hard to find a better place to stay. They do ask for a $30 security deposit on top of the room charge, but it’s returned right away when you bring back the remote controls and room key. I’ve stayed here before, and the new towels in the rooms were quite luxurious.

After an 11 hour overnight drive to the border, my kids were exhausted. We had an 8am dentist appointment that only lasted 10 minutes, so I called to ask about checking in early. They said yes, and having a place to rest was a welcome break. The downside was the room smelled overwhelmingly of Fabulosa. It burned my nose.

The rooms are pretty no-frills, but they were clean and the A/C worked great. The onsite bar/restaurant stayed open later than almost anywhere else in town, and the margaritas were the best ever. I went in with really low expectations and ended up finding the hotel perfect for what I needed.
