You have to commit when this wave starts breaking. It hits the sandbar and suddenly stands up to about three times its size, so you can get barreled like nowhere else. But hesitate and you’re in for a serious beating. It’s a sandbar beach break and one of the toughest waves on Mexico’s Pacific Coast. Leave your purse at home and be ready to want it.

The views are lovely, and the service is excellent, with staff who are really attentive. The place is comfortable and very cheap, so go in expecting the basics rather than luxuries. There’s no air conditioning, but the fan they lend you is plenty, and honestly, you don’t need a TV on vacation. It’s mostly somewhere to sleep and shower.

At night, reception is unattended; they close everything up and go to bed. There’s also nowhere to put clothes or suitcases, and the room feels crammed. The air conditioners are old and loud, and there’s no TV. Rooms are roughly 4x4 meters, and they won’t be cleaned during a stay longer than one night unless you ask. There’s no hot water, something the advertising doesn’t mention, and Wi-Fi costs an extra $9 per day. We booked online with a credit card without having seen the hotel. When it came time to pay, they said there’d be another 3% charge unless we paid cash. I tried to get a refund starting the first night, but didn’t get one. It has fewer amenities than anywhere else in the area, and it’s expensive for what you get. This is really just an adventure spot for foreign surfers on a tight budget. I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone I know.
