We were already in bed when the hotel called at 10 pm to say there was a problem with our reservation. Earlier, at check-in around 5 pm, the place was nearly empty and staff had put us in a room a little nicer than the one we booked. We assumed that was fine given the low occupancy. They now said they'd given us the wrong room and told us to either pay extra for the upgrade or move ourselves and our belongings. Since we were basically asleep and leaving the next morning, that put us in a very awkward position. I told them it felt like a scam to spring this on us so late, and they eventually dropped the request. The hotel itself was cute and clean, and our one-night stay in Mahahual could have been nice. Instead, the whole thing left a bad feeling. If I came back, I'd choose another place because I wouldn't trust the staff not to try this again.

40 Canones rescued our vacation after a rocky start to what was meant to be a cruise. The beach was spectacular and clean, and service was amazing. Everything we ate was fresh and beautifully presented, and the room rates were very reasonable. It felt like a paradise. A special thanks to Landy, Delia, Ernesto and Christian, who made our stay even better. We'll absolutely be back. Gracias Para todo!

We only stayed one night, and I wish we'd had longer. The beach felt like paradise, the rooms were spotless, and everyone we met was kind, professional and helpful. We had great service at the beach and during both breakfast and dinner, and the food and drinks were delicious. After I accidentally left something behind, someone contacted me right away. That really showed the team's care and efficiency. Check-in had also been easy, and they greeted us as soon as we arrived with a tasty welcome drink. I can't remember everyone's names, but thank you all. It was lovely meeting and chatting with Ernesto, Nina, Evelyn and Patricia. We had an amazing short visit and would love to return one day. Nos vemos pronto. 🤞🏽

We had breakfast and dinner there and spent time on the beach. The suite had a spectacular view, and the room was beautiful. We loved our stay ❤️

I'd been here before and had a good time, so this visit was a letdown. The place is still pleasant and the food was fine, but the service was a real weakness. Orders were forgotten, things took a long time, and the waitstaff came across as distracted and disorganized. It made the whole experience feel sloppy. There are plenty of nice places around, so I'd pick somewhere else.
