City Express by Marriott Mazatlán

I regret choosing this hotel. The sheets on my bed had hair and black spots, and when I asked to switch rooms, I was told they needed authorization first. The front desk agent seemed sick and kept wiping her nose with her fingers before touching things, including my credit card. She took offense when I pulled out hand sanitizer. I was moved beside noisy guests, and with tile floors you hear echoes of people talking throughout the place. When she handed over my new key, she had an attitude too. I don't know why Marriott lets this place use its name. Never again.

The staff I dealt with were friendly, but the room was run-down, dirty, and looked like it had mold. For a property carrying the Marriott name, the hotel felt closer to a 2-3 star motel, and the lobby staff didn't seem to know much about Marriott Bonvoy benefits. I booked City Express by Marriott Mazatlán at the last minute for one night because my flight was delayed. I left disappointed and wouldn't recommend it.

The front desk people were very nice, but the comfort in this hotel is a zero. The beds sit ridiculously close to the floor and the thin mattresses felt like cardboard. My back hurt badly, and so did my daughter's. The pillows were flat with lumpy, cheap cotton filling. The phone was filthy and smelled, and the shower looked cheap and left water pooling all over the bathroom. The AC vent kept opening and closing with an annoying nonstop noise. There's barely room to set down and open your luggage without hitting the TV. Breakfast was a joke, runny powdered eggs that made us sick. People giving it high ratings must be used to cheap hotels and don't know what comfort is. We had to stop for the night when it got dark and there was nowhere else for our one-night stay. At $113, this was ridiculously expensive. Rates in the United States are better than this cheap hotel chain. Don't waste your money for a free disappointment.

I spent a week here while work was being done on the tile at my house. The rooms were clean, quiet, and great, and the staff were really friendly and accommodating. The breakfast alone was worth staying for.
