Coral Island Hotel

The included breakfast was perfect, and the rooms were comfortable and clean. The decor could use work, though. The large wall art of African elephants didn't fit with the Mexican Pacific setting. That's a pretty minor issue and really the only negative I found in the room. The location is great, overlooking the Pacific Ocean, with a rooftop pool and rooms facing either the ocean or lagoon. The front desk staff were a little annoying and curt.

We won't be back after this disappointing week. The pool chlorine burned our eyes for two days, the place was dirty, and the shower was very poor. The TV was tiny, too. Getting to the beach meant crossing a busy, noisy avenue. Anyone who likes this hotel must live in a dump.

The rooms are nice and comfortable, and the pool has a great view of the beach, which is right across the road. But I booked expecting to use the pool and gym, only to find they were under construction. Check-in also took forever because the front desk asked me to email my ID or confirmation, and the hotel WiFi was slow. I expected better.

The roaches were what made this a one-star stay for me. We saw ants on the counter one night, then cockroaches the next morning, so we canceled the rest of our trip here and moved elsewhere. The place also looked nothing like the photos, which seem to be from when it first opened, and the elevators only worked sometimes, so I took the stairs. We ordered from the restaurant and told them my wife couldn't eat meat because she was vegetarian, but her Chile relleno and the rest of her meal came with meat. They did fix it. I still don't understand the high ratings, maybe it's locals. We won't stay here again.
