Fiesta Inn Mazatlán

The biggest issue for us was the room. There was a bad sewage smell, and although the staff responded quickly and tried to fix it, I don't understand why they didn't move us to another room. Opening the window to clear the smell wasn't easy either, since a live music venue behind the building played loudly well past midnight. We barely slept. In hindsight, I wish we'd taken a taxi to the bus station and caught the night bus. It would have cost less and probably been more comfortable. Hot water took about 15 minutes to come through. I paid about 800 MXN for one of the cheapest rooms, but it didn't feel worth it, and I probably wouldn't return unless the price drops. There were some positives. The hotel is new and modern, everything looked very clean, and they accepted credit cards. The room had a good TV with a decent range of channels and very good air conditioning. The staff seemed trustworthy and did their best. After checkout I realized I'd left my Chromebook in the bedroom. I called, and they found it and kept it safe until I could pick it up a few days later. That trustworthiness is why I gave four stars, though the problems had me considering two. I chose the location because I thought it was close to the bus station, but it's still a few blocks away. I was also disappointed that the hotel doesn't face the ocean. Its photo gave me the impression of a much larger lobby, but the actual lobby is tiny, with limited seating and weak WiFi. They also always require a cash deposit, which is returned at checkout. That's not the end of the world, but it added to the disappointment.
