Hotel Playa Victoria

The first-floor room they gave me worked well for the accessibility needs I mentioned on the phone. We were pleased with the place: it was clean, had gated parking and security, and the staff were really friendly. We’ve been coming to Mazatlan three times a year for six years and usually stay elsewhere, but that hotel had no room available for New Year Eve, so we tried this one. For the price, I’d give it five stars. We checked out today.

The room itself was a mess: it wasn’t clean, there was hair on the pillows, they looked old, and the bathroom hadn’t been cleaned. The shower leaked onto the floor even with the door shut. When I used a towel to dry it, Sandra in the office called it a sin, and seemed more concerned about that than my child possibly slipping. I paid for the towel at checkout. There was so much humidity in the room that we had to keep the door open, and the AC seemed very weak. The pool wasn’t clean either, and construction on the building next to it made that area feel unsafe. We’d planned to use the pool. The service was horrible. Staff weren’t welcoming and stared at us as if we owed them something. My husband went to the office to book and pay for a room. After we’d paid, Sandra decided to charge us extra and our key was blocked. We missed the baseball game because we couldn’t get back into the room in time to get ready. If I’d known how bad it would be, I wouldn’t have minded paying more somewhere else. I do not recommend this place.

I only booked this place because I needed somewhere at the last minute, but I wouldn’t spend another night there. The bed was uncomfortable and the room was in rough shape. The walls looked like they might have black mold, though I can’t say for sure. There’s no Wi-Fi or elevator, and every time you leave, you have to get the room key reactivated because it doesn’t work. You can hear everything, from traffic outside to the people next door showering.

The only real plus was being across from the beach. The pictures make the hotel look nothing like it does in person. There was a big puddle in the parking area, and a man told us to drive through it. Some cars did, but it felt really ghetto. The pillows were dirty and had hair on them, and there was hair in the toilet too. The AC was filthy. The pool is outdoors, facing rubble and wires.
