Casona 61 Boutique Hotel

We had a quiet, relaxing stay, and the pool was a nice place to unwind, even if it’s on the small side. The staff were friendly and helped us figure out how to get around Merida, and they offer tours too. Our room was spacious, clean, and pleasant. The hotel is downtown, close enough to walk to the square and nearby restaurants, while still not too far from the airport.

The staff were friendly and helpful, and carried our luggage upstairs even though we said we could manage it ourselves. The room was a different story. Its only window that opens looked straight onto the hallway, so anyone passing could see inside. I kept the room mostly dark for privacy, and the bathroom window let in only a little light. There was no way to ventilate it, so it became very humid. The air conditioner was old and so loud I couldn’t sleep with it running. The room was advertised with a “private pool,” but it was more like a foot bath. There was no fridge, and they didn’t provide free water in the room every day. This hotel is nowhere near five stars.

A peaceful spot in the middle of a busy city, with plenty of pleasant outdoor space and a really clean pool. The staff were warm and friendly, and we got a complimentary 10-minute massage. Breakfast costs extra and is made to order. We tried the typical breakfast and thought it was delicious.

Our room was at the back of the property, so nights were very quiet as long as we didn’t run the air conditioning. The private pool didn’t make much sense for a December or January stay, since it was too cold to get in. And please replace the towels. The hotel calls itself five-star, but it felt more like three-star, and the experience came across as bait and switch.
