Emilio and Daniela, the lovely couple who run this hostel, were friendly and happy to help with any information. They had a list of popular restaurants, bars, and coffee shops. We tried two of the restaurants, and both were good, with acceptable prices and good food and service. Breakfast was a healthy buffet of milk and flakes, fruit, bread, and coffee. I had a private double room upstairs. It was simple, as you'd expect for the price, but clean enough for a backpacker, with AC and hot water for showers. I'm completely satisfied with what they offer and would definitely come back.

El Mayab is comfortable and has lots of places to relax, both indoors and outside. The bathrooms are clean, though the showers could use more pressure. Use the one on the left (ladies) :) The staff are lovely and helpful, with plenty of information about the sights, the city, and getting around. There's a nice breakfast, hot water, and AC in the dorm rooms. The ADO main terminal is just around the corner. Great value, and I'd definitely recommend it!

The price is good for a hostel near central Merida. I've stayed in better ones, though. AC runs from evening until morning. There are only two showers and two toilets for each gender, which could get annoying when the place is full. They're a 30 meter walk from the rooms. Breakfast is included, but expect just cereal, milk, toast, jam, and coffee.

The owner was so thoughtful, giving me a hat for the hot weather and making sure I had water and Sunscreen. The rooms were clean, the beds comfortable, and the wifi excellent. The other staff were super friendly too. It's a peaceful place, very close to the bus station, with the square and market nearby.

I didn't end up staying here because my plans changed just after I booked. They were really cool about it and waived the cancellation fee. That was pretty nice, so five stars from me.
