Hilton Garden Inn Merida

Wonderful service from everyone, from the lobby reception to the lovely cleaning lady and restaurant staff. We had a nice, spacious, clean suite. Great hotel!

The only real plus was how welcoming and attentive the front desk and restaurant staff were. The hotel is rated four stars, but the rooms are dated and basic, other than the lobby. I had to switch rooms twice at check-in because the rooms were filthy. Walls were marked up, tile floors dirty, bathroom sinks clogged and slow to drain, bedding discolored and clearly not new, and the doors were chipped and marked. The mattress was old and uncomfortable, with terrible box springs. As a Travel Advisor, I’d never recommend this hotel to clients. Its location is average, with shopping in the same building as the main advantage. It seems Hilton bought the hotel and then ignored it, apart from the lobby. Restaurant hours are limited and the alcoholic drinks are weak. The price is affordable, but the place needs major renovations, new clean bedding and towels, and a deep clean of the walls in rooms and hallways and the tile floors. I booked last minute and couldn’t get a refund, so I’m making the best of it. The front desk kindly upgraded me to a king suite. It’s not fancy, just another living area with basic furniture and an extra bathroom. Hilton needs to do better with maintenance and standards.

The restaurant breakfast cost extra, but the food was good. Every employee we dealt with was polite and helpful. Our clean, spacious room had a handy mini-fridge, though a microwave would have been nice. When we first arrived, hot air hit us like opening an oven, and it took a while for the room to cool down. The lights and AC only work when you put a room card in a slot by the door. We were there for business, and the hotel was a short walk from where we needed to go. It’s attached to a mini mall with a Starbucks, TGI Fridays, Walmart, and ice cream shops, with a bigger mall also within walking distance. It met our needs, and we’d stay again.

The room was clean, the staff friendly, and breakfast was good. But the air conditioning was awful. It was around 85 degrees when I arrived at 10 am, and by morning the room had only cooled to about 78. Really hot and humid. I’d recommend calling ahead to ask them to switch the AC on for you.
