This is a safe, very affordable place to stay, which leaves you more to spend on Merida's restaurants, tours, and other things to see. Just don't expect concierge service or to be treated like royalty, with every comfort taken care of. Knowing some Spanish helps, since the staff don't speak English.

Room 11 was clean and had a proper door, cable TV, air conditioning, a ceiling fan, and a bathroom with a toilet and shower. The bed was huge and very comfortable, unless you're 200 kg, I guess. A few mosquitoes showed up, but clapping them away worked pretty easily. The shower pressure was quite slow, though it wasn't a big deal, and the water was nice and cool in the heat. The woman at the front desk was lovely and answered all my questions, even though we didn't share a language. For the price, this is a very nice hotel. Thanks, Hotel Aventura!

The staff were kind and helpful. When I woke up in a lot of pain from my back cramping, they even gave me Tylenol. The place is quiet, too, as guests are expected to keep noise down late at night and early in the morning, so it's easy to rest. It's basic accommodation, with AC, cable, and basic wifi, not a luxury resort. I do think the price should perhaps be about half, or they could improve it with thicker, better mattresses.

The staff were generally cordial and asked each day if I wanted maid service, though the young man on the night shift seemed indifferent. One guest talked loudly on his phone late into the night, and nothing was done about it. My biggest issue was the internet: it's listed as free, but it barely worked outside the lobby. That's not acceptable, especially since reliable access shouldn't be expensive to fix. The rooms are on the small side with mostly adequate, spartan furnishings. The mattress was thin on a hard base, and my lower back started hurting after I first posted this. Mosquitoes are a problem, too. I'd rather have a clothes rack than the huge hammock-style chair. Better mattresses and working internet would earn two more stars from me.

The staff were noisy until midnight and started up again around 6 a.m., so sleeping well was a challenge. When I asked them to call a taxi at checkout, they told me to walk or hail one on the street because it was a holiday. The place wasn't very clean, felt overpriced, and the area wasn't great.
