Hotel Flamingo

The room was small, and the bathroom was cramped. The shower head sprayed in every direction and soaked the room. The modern finishes were poorly done, and the floating shelves could barely hold anything. The bed was large and comfy, but there was a dead bug in it, and we saw cockroaches at night. That's apparently common, but guests should be told. My street-facing room was quite loud. The location is its saving grace, close to the downtown square, shops, and restaurants.

Handy for Merida's old town, and the price was reasonable.

We booked at the last minute after a different hotel two blocks away turned out to be gross, and this place was a great surprise. It was clean, calm, and the staff were friendly. Parking is free, but it's not attached to the hotel. There's also a lot across the street that costs a little. The AC worked so well we had to turn it up or switch it off because the room got too cold. Water pressure was great, and the water got really hot, the sort that might burn you alive in the shower. I prefer it warm! If you're a light sleeper, ask for a room away from the street because of morning traffic. Workers made a little noise while cleaning in the morning, but I was already awake, so it didn't bother me. Great for a night or two, and I'd come back. One more thing, there's a sign saying they don't give refunds, just so you know.

The room was clean, but the smell made it hard to stay in. There was serious mold in the pipes, and the odor spread through the tiny bathroom and into the bedroom. The room had no window you could open to get fresh air. Its only window looked onto the echoing indoor area, and opening the door to the hallway was the only other option. It was dark, stuffy, and impossible to air out. The pool was another letdown. It was about 1m deep, so murky we couldn’t see our feet, and sat right in the lobby, separated only by the elevators. The whole area was dim and echoey. Kids were making a lot of noise when we went to bed and again when we woke up early, and no one asked them or their parents to quiet down. Staff seemed somewhat friendly, but distracted whenever we passed. For a tiny, smelly room, the price was way too high. I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone hoping for even a little comfort.
