The included coffee was nice, but the “continental breakfast” was just a few papaya slices and two pieces of bread. Neither room had hot water, and both felt very humid. The location is central, and the hotel has a distinctive lavender theme. Our first room was nothing like the one we’d booked. When I showed reception photos of the advertised room, he said, “those are just promotional photos”. They did move us the second night to a room closer to what we’d paid for. It wasn’t a bad stay, but Merida has lots of other options that might be better. They could put more into breakfast and repairs to restore the hotel and what it offers.

We left after one night because the place was old and dirty, and our room smelled like urine. The doors were old and unsealed, so mosquitoes got in and bit my daughter. It badly needs serious remodeling. I had booked three days, but management refused a refund for the two nights we didn’t stay. I emailed them to explain why we left and raise my concerns, but they never replied. I wouldn’t recommend it. There are nicer hotels in Paseo Montejo for a better price.

The room was noisy, and though it was clean, we had to ask for a blanket because there was only a sheet on the bed. We stayed here eight years ago and it was fabulous, but it seems to have gone downhill. For the price, it was just okay. There was no hot shower, and the first rooms we saw had no windows and were very dark. Our friend found their bed uncomfortable, but ours was fine. A young man named Alphonso was really helpful. There weren’t any drinking glasses, so he walked to Oxxo and brought back paper cups. We went out and bought real glass ones. Breakfast was supposed to be included, but the coffee machine was broken the first day. The next day there was coffee, but they wanted to charge for milk. Breakfast was just toast and fruit, so we went to Centro instead.

That king-size bed was amazing, and I’d love to stay here again. The front desk team were extremely friendly and helpful. It really felt like a boutique hotel.

The outside area was kept clean, the pool was a decent size and clean, and the restaurant staff and maid were kind and helpful. They held our bags until check-in, the AC worked well, and they gave us two free bottles of water. I stayed one night and wouldn’t have wanted to stay longer. I chose the hotel for its location, which was good, but was disappointed as soon as I arrived. My flight got in early after a long day of travel, and I wanted to relax. The front desk guy insisted I couldn’t check in early because they were fully booked, though I could see into several rooms as I walked by and they looked empty. The room smelled as soon as we entered. The carpet and dresser were old, the dresser dusty, and the floorboards creaked loudly on the way to the bathroom. There were no towel hooks, and the sink pressure was too strong. The king bed was wide but too short for me at 5’6, so my feet hung over and I had to sleep sideways. The hotel needs a full remodel and new furniture. Their avocado toast was made with a spread, not real avocados, which was a big disappointment. The free breakfast was rubbish, just white toast, a few watermelon slices, and coffee. Our corner room, number 21, was at the far end and got no WiFi signal.
