The breakfast was the best complimentary hotel breakfast we had. There were lots of vegetables and fruit, different meats, eggs, several kinds of bread, sweet spreads, and a good choice of juices and coffee. Staff were friendly, and the room itself was large and clean, about 20 minutes from the town center. Still, several things let us down. The bathroom lighting was too dim, and the hall carpets were visibly filthy, as if they hadn’t been vacuumed in a long time. The maids mostly made the bed and didn’t replenish toilet paper, soap, towels, coffee, dishwasher soap, or a dish towel. We had to ask repeatedly. They said it was because our small dog was in the bathroom, but there was no dog in the kitchen, so that didn’t explain the missing kitchen supplies. We were there for two weeks, and apparently they thought we could do without basics. The elevator situation was the biggest problem. There was only one working when we arrived, and three days later the other was still out of service. When we asked how long repairs would take, we were told technicians might come in about a week. We asked what would happen if the second elevator failed too, and got the answer, “oh it won’t.” The wait was incredibly long, and whenever we wanted to go to or from the fifth floor, we were squeezed alongside people and huge cleaning carts. We mostly started using the stairs, after a maid nearly crushed my foot with her cart. If you’re older, this place could make vacation feel like a workout. This shouldn’t happen at a chain like Residence Inn. They also charged $400 extra for our small dog, who caused no damage, while the elevator was broken and basic toiletries weren’t being supplied. Aside from breakfast, the services need a lot of improvement for this place to deserve five stars.

My online booking, Confirmation Number 93847015, was for $482.48 USD. At check-in I specifically asked to pay in USD, as booked, to avoid a worse exchange rate. The concierge said that wasn’t possible and insisted the charge had to be in Mexican pesos. My card was charged in MXN, and the total came to $504.34 USD, well above the confirmed price. I objected right away and said I wouldn’t accept paying more than the amount I’d agreed to when booking. At first the concierge brushed it off as “my bank’s problem.” After I escalated things and got visibly upset, suddenly a USD charge was possible. That raises serious questions for me about transparency and business practices. I was told the original peso charge would be refunded, but the refund was only $493.66 USD. The remaining $10.68 USD was never returned. I like the hotel and have generally had good experiences with Marriott properties, which made this especially disappointing. I felt taken advantage of, and it damaged my trust in the brand. Guests shouldn’t have to fight to pay the rate they agreed to, or have currency conversion work in the hotel’s favor at their expense. This needs to be addressed seriously, because it reflects badly on an otherwise strong, reputable brand.

There’s free parking and the service is great. The location is close to several attractions, including plaza galerias, Maya museum, the expo center, and the Periferico. The breakfast buffet has a good range of quality dishes. Some parts of the rooms will need refurbishing soon.

The front desk and housekeeping were great, as usual. My room was very large and had a kitchenette I didn’t use. The bathroom was good, though the lighting wasn’t sufficient. Breakfast wasn’t something I looked forward to during my two-week stay. The food was just okay, and they often ran out of silverware, glasses, or plates. They could use a pastry warmer.

The rooftop pool was a nice part of my handful of days here over Christmas 2025. It’s a very nice Residence Inn, with lots of restaurants nearby and a mall across the street. Breakfast was more than the usual Marriott continental spread.
