The garden, pool, and cabana were quiet and relaxing, with lovely shade trees. The apartment had everything we needed, including a washer and dryer, and the location made it easy to reach all parts of the city. I highly recommend it.

After staying for more than 60 days, we were left feeling the host’s handling of our deposit and extra charges was unfair and disappointing. There had been no prior agreement or discussion about the terms. They accused us of damaging towels that were already old and heavily worn from repeated use in multiple rentals. The host wouldn’t provide proof of purchase, product tags, or photos showing their condition before our stay. We were also told the walls needed repainting and the stove needed professional cleaning, even though both looked worn when we arrived. We offered to clean the stove ourselves, despite it not being on the checkout list, but the host declined, then said someone had already been hired and tried to charge us without proof the work was done. The charge was $140 USD. We booked directly, outside Airbnb, so we didn’t have its usual protection. We’re now escalating this with PROFECO, a local attorney, and the U.S. Consular Agency in Mérida. The house was also in worse condition than advertised. It was dated, with termite damage visible in several areas, and the plunge pool couldn’t be used. Daily cleaning had been promised, but no cleaning service came during our stay. Bedding, cookware, and utensils were all very low quality, which made it hard to enjoy the place comfortably. If you’re thinking of booking, I’d strongly suggest getting the policies, deposit terms, and cleaning expectations in writing before paying.

We spent a little over two weeks in Merida, planning to use the house as a base for trips around the Yucatan peninsula. We didn’t expect to fall in love with it. It’s modern and nicely furnished, and the beds were clean and comfortable. We often had the pool just outside our unit to ourselves. Locals we spoke with said it was in one of Merida’s neighborhoods. We always felt safe and even walked a couple of blocks to local restaurants. It really felt like home. Thank you.
