Hotel Real Mercedes

I was pleasantly surprised by the comfortable, clean, large room and reasonable rates. The bed was comfortable, the A/C worked, and there were wide doorways into both the room and bathroom, plus an elevator and smart TV. The continental breakfast was juice, coffee, toast with jam, and fruit, though they also have a good breakfast and lunch menu. The towels and housecoat were thin, and there was a little street noise, but it wasn't bad. I'd stay again.

I was hoping to use the spa they advertise, but it wasn't available. Parking is very limited, and the spaces that are there are hard to get into. We were put on the third floor with the elevator out of service, so climbing three flights was difficult. We asked to move rooms, but were told none were available at the time.

The bed was a comfortable queen, and the A/C worked well, but its indicator light stayed on all night, which made sleeping in a dark room harder. The room was small, with only a little window in the bathroom, and there was a line of ants in the bathroom along the wall, around the mirror and behind the sink. The open hallway design looks nice, though it also means mosquitoes can get in. Breakfast was the main letdown. I came down to a small dining room with five tables already occupied, and the servers didn't acknowledge us for 15 minutes. We left for Pollo Feliz next door. When I returned, the room was empty and someone finally greeted me, so I tried the free breakfast: sliced banana, toast with jelly, and what tasted like fake orange juice or coffee. It felt more like a snack. That lack of hospitality cost them two stars. The property itself seems nice, and the patio out back with the pool and chairs looked inviting, but the water was a little dirty, so I didn't swim even though I had my bathing suit. The staff could be friendlier, as other reviews have said. At about 850 pesos, I think we could have done better. The front parking area is very tight, with room for six cars, maybe seven if one is close to the sidewalk. I appreciated a few little touches: the Wi-Fi password was written in the room, and there were masks, a bottle of [Costco]water, and bedroom slippers. There were no tissues or alarm clock, and the TV was useless since I couldn't watch anything.

We had a pleasant night here. The room was spacious, clean, and big enough for four people, with hot and cold water and fast internet. The continental breakfast was okay, and I'd stay again.
