The quieter part of town suited me, and there’s still plenty nearby: restaurants, shops, a good taco spot across the street, plus a convenience store and bus stop. I could get around without a car. Suites Reforma is hard to beat for the price, and the staff were accommodating from the start. We handled everything easily through WhatsApp, and they arranged the specific room I requested. The room was spacious and clean, with a large, comfortable bed, coffee maker, and big smart TV with cable and streaming apps. Wi-Fi was solid and the A/C worked well, which matters in Yucatán. For comfort, cleanliness, convenience, and service, this place checked the boxes for me. It’ll be my go-to in Mérida.

The building is close to Plaza Grande, an easy walk away. We only stayed one night, but the clean, comfortable rooms and facility made us want to return. Basic amenities were there. For breakfast, try La Mata just down c33b. The food and service were stellar.

The room was acceptable, and since I live locally I could have stayed longer. But the way staff treated me at check-out was so disrespectful that I’ll never return. The older female receptionist and one of the two male staff members spoke rudely and dismissively. They took the towels and sheets from the room to reception and held them up to inspect for stains in front of everyone. It was humiliating and completely inappropriate. I’d spilled some avocado and cream, but it washes off completely. Accidents happen, and sheets should be washed, not publicly examined. I’ve never seen anything like staff touching and stroking used sheets a couple had slept on for days. There’s no regular replacement of towels, sheets, or toilet paper during the stay, but guests are treated with suspicion when leaving. If you run out of toilet paper, you’re expected to pay extra. They also kept my 500 MXN deposit because I didn’t have the receipt physically with me, even though they had a photo showing my passport, cash, and receipt together. The room was inspected and found fine. On arrival, though, there had been bugs and dirt that I had to clean myself. It felt like money mattered more than guest experience or respect. Things got so uncomfortable that I eventually told them to keep the deposit. The location was only average too, fairly far from many central areas. I’ve never experienced such shameful treatment as a guest, and I’d caution anyone who values dignity, privacy, and customer service to think twice before staying.

It’s an inexpensive place that works for one night, with a clean shower and a comfortable, clean bed. The room floors were dirty, though, and it can get noisy if your room faces the street. The location isn’t anything special, near a street that closes in the evening. You can rent a bike or horse 🐎 and enjoy the vendors and so on.

August, 2023. Friendly staff and a nice neighborhood made for a pleasant stay. Just know that extra toilet paper costs more. I’d recommend the hotel if you’re considering it.
