Hotel Sureño Yucatán

The food and service at Sureno both come with so much care and attention to detail. The hotel itself is a calm refuge right in the middle of Merida, a place to unwind over the weekend. Its rooms each have their own design and story, with details that invite you to dream. Sureno mixes modern comfort with classic Yucatecan/colonial touches. The high columns in the entrance hall and open layout with white curtains reminded me a little of Cuba, and the atmosphere brings through the warmth of the southern Yucatán peninsula. ✨✨

Read the cancellation terms carefully before booking, at least through Booking.com. As I understand it, there's no refund for any reason. Room 6 has two queen beds, but the glass doors between the sleeping area and bathroom are so see-through that you can watch everything the other person does in there. That was a real problem for me, though it may depend on who you're sharing with. We decided to move to another hotel because of the lack of bathroom privacy. We spent only 15 minutes at Hotel Sureño before making that choice, yet were charged the full reservation price. Our refund requests were rejected under the no-exceptions cancellation policy.

A cute, quiet little oasis right in central Merida. The staff were amazing, the rooftop was great, and the food was excellent. I had breakfast and lunch there. The rooms were really comfortable. 10/10, I'd stay again.

The place looks beautiful in the pictures, and the rooms are nice, but they're very small for the price. I spent just one day there, which was enough to know I wouldn't return. The service was the biggest problem: it didn't feel luxurious or customer focused, and staff were really rude when we asked for things. We were on the rooftop and chose to stop ordering and go somewhere else for drinks. The hotel has what it needs to be really nice, but its customer service needs to improve at every hour, not just the main hours.
