David, the bellman, was friendly and a real help. The rest of the staff seemed uninterested. Our room wasn’t ready at arrival, and even after waiting several hours, we found a lot wrong with it. We reported the problems in the morning, but nothing had been fixed by late afternoon. They eventually moved us to a different room.

The suite was quiet, the bed was comfortable, and the pool had peaceful views. The room’s light kept flashing through the night, though. We figured out we could shut the bathroom sliding door to block it, and didn’t want to bother the staff. The balcony tub was a lovely extra. I watched the eclipse from it, which made the night memorable. Service and the room were impeccable, and I’d consider staying again. Dinner was the letdown: we ordered fish of the day and ravioli, weren’t happy with either, and ended up ordering food from somewhere else.

When I arrived, the front desk wanted to put a resort fee on my card even though it should have been included in the price. The receptionist wasn’t sure whether it was wanted, but still wanted to leave the charge open. It felt scammy. Then I was shown a room with no natural light: its only window and balcony faced another window and balcony. Save yourself the hassle and book somewhere else.

I’m so disappointed. My partner is from Merida, and we wanted to get married in Mexico. I fell for this location quickly, and Jennifer, the hotel’s personal assistant, was so nice and friendly. We had a test dinner to firm up our plans. We talked about money, chose the menu and discussed how our special day would go. I was excited and thought we’d found our place. Then we got home to Germany, and Jennifer stopped replying to our messages. It feels so disrespectful and unreliable, and now that special place is gone. We have to look for somewhere else in Merida online from Germany, since we can’t visit our family there again until February next year. I’m so mad.
