The location is wonderful and within walking distance, and the lobby looks nice, as if it was renovated sometime in the last 10 years. That said, I expected more from a Hilton property, so I'm giving it two stars. The free underground parking smelled like a sewer, which wasn't a good first impression. The property is old, and the rooms need renovation. The AC ran all night but still couldn't keep the room cold, and the tub walls had soap scum all over them, suggesting the cleaning lacked attention to detail. The restaurants are probably overpriced too. This is a grand old hotel that could be grand again after a renovation.

The staff were friendly, and the location is great, within walking distance of Montejo and its good restaurants. The rooms were clean and the AC worked very well, which earned it three stars from me, but they need quite a bit of maintenance, so don't expect anything fancy or luxurious. I was travelling with my kids, and unfortunately they couldn't enjoy the pool. The water was too cold, and my son had an allergic reaction after being in it for about 10 minutes.

Villa Mercedes made for a lovely stay in Mérida. The setting is quiet, even though the historic center is close enough to walk to, and breakfast was delicious and thoughtfully served. The property is beautifully maintained, with classic architecture, modern comforts, clean, peaceful interiors and well-appointed rooms. It was a pleasure to relax there after a day of exploring.

Louis made my arrival and stay much more pleasant. He was professional, spoke English, greeted me with a big smile, and even remembered my dog's German name. Great job, thank you Louis. The hotel is pet friendly, and the location is good, about a 20-minute walk to the Grand Plaza. My room was spacious, with quality bedding and a good-sized bed. But the AC was loud, and with the window open for fresh air, traffic noise was loud day and night. You also have to pay extra to get away from the noisy street by upgrading to an executive room. The parking lot smelled terrible. There's a pool, though I never saw anyone swimming and it didn't really look like a swimming pool to me. Communication was difficult too. The room service guys only seemed to know the word 'what'. My English isn't perfect either, but I don't work in hospitality.

We were glad it was only a one-night stay. For a property that's supposed to be a five-star Hilton, it fell far short. Our room was old and dirty, with dust everywhere and hair in the bathroom. The underground parking smelled like a sewer, and when I asked at the front desk, I was told that's common in Merida.
