Hotel Cosmos Don Carlos

Our room was quiet because it faced away from the street. It was clean, the shower was hot, and the AC was cold. The maid staff were kind and helpful. The pool was refreshing, though the ladder was so short it was hard to climb out. The website still shows a restaurant, but it’s no longer operating. When we were leaving, I asked the front desk to call a taxi and he said no. I asked at the desk of the hotel next door instead, and they did it without a problem.

It has a wonderful Mexican feel, with a hacienda vibe, and it was very clean. The AC was super cold, and everything at the restaurant was delicious and really affordable. I was traveling on a budget, and this place is a must visit.

Cosmos is a budget option compared with the upscale hotels on the same block, and its central location near the geometric center of Mexicali is a big plus. The rooms are super clean. The single rooms could use redecorating with better materials, though, and the TV is laughably small and too far from the bed to be useful.

The sheets smelled clean, and staying on a weekday meant it was very quiet. But the beds are tiny and almost down to the floor, and there was hair on the room floors. We had to cover the window with a sheet because people outside could see in. They offer free breakfast, but even though there were two of us, the attendant said only one breakfast was free.
