Hotel Astor

The staff were really friendly and helpful, and we had everything we needed during our three nights. We’d gladly stay here again on another visit to Mexico.

The restaurant was a letdown. Breakfast included with the room came with very few choices, just an omelette or scrambled eggs, and we weren’t allowed to order more than one item. The restaurant staff didn’t seem very welcoming to guests having the free breakfast, which felt unprofessional. At the front desk, though, everyone was kind, friendly, and professional. We enjoyed walking around and eating at excellent local restaurants. Staying outside the bigger tourist hotels gave us a chance to see that side of the area. The hotel is a little away from the main attractions, but close enough to walk to the angel of independence, where we caught the hop-on hop-off bus. A ride to the airport cost roughly 300 pesos. It’s an older place, but very clean, with spacious rooms, comfortable beds, and a large shower. We don’t speak Spanish, and none of the staff spoke English, so ordering breakfast was a bit difficult. Still, I’d highly recommend it.

The location was good, with lots of tasty street stalls and restaurants nearby. We arrived very early and asked about checking in before the usual 3pm time. Our room was ready, but they initially said it would cost $50USD to get in then. We thought that was excessive, and they eventually let us check in for free at 1pm. The room was large but very basic, with no fridge, kitchenette, or iron. The beds were extremely hard, so we didn’t sleep comfortably, and the staff weren’t very friendly. We stayed two nights, and the experience was pretty average.
