City Express by Marriott Ciudad de México Tlalpan

The room is over 75°F and too uncomfortable to sleep in. The A/C broke, but the front desk said they couldn’t fix it because maintenance had gone home for the night. It took them an hour just to come up and tell us that. What kind of hotel has no maintenance on site at 7 pm?

I picked this hotel for five nights because getting around was easy, even though it overlooks the metro and there’s street noise. For some reason, I slept better here than I did at the Hyatt and Hilton during the same CDMX trip. The neighborhood isn’t the prettiest, but there are good tacos, tortas and markets. A few streets north there are lots of prostitutes and motels. I still felt safe, even walking around at night.

I stayed here October 2-4, 2024, and discovered at checkout that I’d left valuables in the room safe: my US passport, credit and ID cards, and headphones. When I came back, staff told me an employee had already opened the safe and found nothing inside. They said it had been opened without witnesses, which apparently is the hotel’s policy. I spoke with several staff members, including the assistant manager, the employee involved and his supervisor. None would give me their names or the hotel manager’s contact details. I felt they were more concerned with protecting themselves than helping a distressed customer. It’s extremely disappointing to see a Marriott-affiliated hotel handle things this way. If you’re considering staying here, I strongly advise caution or finding somewhere else to avoid possible problems. MDA

Location was the main draw, though whether it suits you depends on your plans. The hotel is right by Ermita Metro Station, and the Metro is an extremely convenient, affordable way to get around CDMX, probably the easiest option for crossing the city. I arrived at the Taxqueña South Bus Station, and the hotel was just two metro stops away. Frida House in Coyoacán and Six Flags are also close.
