Hotel Pal

The location is really nice, within walking distance of many historic buildings, and there’s free underground parking. They also exchange currency at a fair rate. Manager Jose provided outstanding service and went above and beyond. You couldn’t ask for a nicer hombre to manage the hotel, and he speaks English well, which helps. It’s a great hotel for the price. In the US, a place like this would cost hundreds of dollars a night. In Mexico, I think I paid 24 USD for a large king bed and 30 USD for two queens, back in the fall of 22.

It’s an okay motel in a good location, but there was no hot water in the morning. I kept being told to wait half an hour and that I could check out late. By 2pm, the water was still lukewarm. It was too late for me to leave for my next destination, so I asked for a discount on another night. They offered just 50 pesos. Mean and rude.

Hotel Pal is absolutely my favorite hotel in CDMX. If I’m traveling alone, I stay here exclusively because it has everything I need, and I’ve been coming for over five years. For an overnight stay or two, Carol is absolutely fine with it because it’s clean, in a great location, and economical. If I’m with my wife and we want to treat ourselves to somewhere fancier, I understand that too, and we do sometimes. The modest restaurant serves surprisingly good, inexpensive food. When there isn’t a decent room available in the city, they find one for me. I try to give notice, but plenty of times I’ve called while on the bus on my way there.

Very basic, with no air conditioning in the room, and the beds and sheets look old. Still, the price is fair: 550 pesos for one night in a king bed.
