The staff were friendly and accommodating, and our suite was very clean and spacious. We liked being close to museums, Auditorio, and some really good restaurants. There’s also a small market next to Lincoln Park where you can get groceries if you plan to cook. Our first room faced a VERY busy street and was so noisy we couldn’t sleep. After one night, we asked to move, and the front desk found us a quieter room, which we appreciated. Getting to anywhere beyond Palanco takes plenty of time, though. The rooms could use updating: they felt like they might have been nice 20 years ago. Our bathroom faucets leaked, and the doorknob in the first room was coming off. We’d stayed at an excellent hotel in the historic district before this one, so we had a comparison. For what we paid, the amenities here were lacking. It felt more like a run-down Travelodge than a luxury hotel. It may suit someone, but I won’t stay here again.

The location was great, and the mattress was comfortable. The chunky, cheap pillows weren’t, and the room felt like a 2.5-3.0 star hotel in the U.S. The only pleasant staff member we met was a waiter or busboy working in the cafeteria at night. The rest were awkward and ignored us at the small desk whenever we came in, without a smile or even a “welcome back.” We’re businessmen from the USA and arrived early. At 10:00 a.m. we were told no rooms were ready, so we came back several hours later, close to 5:00 p.m. The late-day desk employee or manager, a middle-aged man with glasses, put us in dark ground-floor rooms. Mine was in a corner with the window looking into the shared courtyard, so anyone could see in if I raised the shade. I spent the stay feeling like I was in a cave. Our company President was put in a ground-floor room beside the loud, smelly kitchen. We politely asked for rooms on higher floors. He said they were “fully booked” on a Monday and Tuesday, but we immediately checked dozens of travel sites and saw plenty of availability for both days. There were barely any people around, and breakfast had at most five people each morning. It felt like he was being difficult and lying to us. We’re in Mx City often now and are trying different hotels. Next month, we’ll bring 15 employees for a four-week project and are evaluating places for their stay. We won’t put them at Obelisk. There are many better choices in Polanco.

Everything was outstanding, from the fantastic location to the amazing service. My room had a fridge and kitchenette, and the staff were incredibly kind and helpful. They also did their best to accommodate my Celiac food concerns, as well as my awful attempts at Spanish. Highly recommend!

After a disastrous Airbnb booking, Edmundo and Caroline were our heroes. We literally had nowhere to go, then found the obelesk. The bed was comfortable, the TV was large, and the staff made all the difference. We’ll book with them for our next Mexico City Adventure.

The service was excellent, and the place was quiet and very clean. We had a suite with a large living room and kitchen, plus two huge master bedrooms, each with its own shower and toilet. The location was excellent and the price was good. We booked through Capitalia Polanco. I didn’t give five stars because there wasn’t real AC in our rooms, and the breakfast was fair, no more than that.
