The bathroom light was out for three days, so we had to shower using our phone flashlights. The advertised cafe also stayed closed the whole four days I was there; they did leave complimentary bread, butter, coffee, and milk instead. For a six-bed dorm without curtains, about $350 peso felt expensive.

Barrio Antiguo was a beautiful setting for this stay, and the hostel itself felt calm, warm, and thoughtfully decorated with lots of color and texture. The staff were very welcoming, and our room was clean and comfortable. I shared the private room with my sister, and the bed was a little small for two. When she tossed and turned one night, I moved to the cot beside it. The front door doesn’t have a code, so you have to wait for someone to let you in, but that was a small inconvenience. If you care about aesthetics and want somewhere peaceful in the heart of Barrio Antiguo, I’d recommend it.

My private room was clean and well kept, and I enjoyed the short stay even though I mostly just came back to sleep. There was a check-in hiccup because the hostel couldn’t find my reservation. I think Hostelworld may not have notified them. The employee who checked me in was kind and friendly.

This is a historic, quaint place with a friendlier feel than a chain hotel. The managers are welcoming and speak multiple languages, and breakfast on site was delicious. It’s easy to walk to restaurants, the paseo, Macroplaza, and other parts of Barrio Antiguo. The rooms are clean, each has its own heating and cooling, and the bathrooms are adequate.

The front desk woman was attentive and gave me a fun tour when I arrived. The shared and private rooms are both nice, with hot water, cold AC, and clean sheets. You’re also just a couple of blocks from plenty of cafes, museums, and bars in this lively part of town.
