Casa Limonchelo Hotel B&B

It's easy to unwind in the spacious courtyard, and the rooms are lovely, with high ceilings. The owner couldn't have made us feel more welcome. From the quiet of our room, you couldn't hear the traffic, yet Morelia's historic center was only a short walk away. A real hidden gem in Morelia.

The proprietor was the best host we've ever had at a hotel or B&B, and the place is wonderfully located. It's in a very safe area with plenty of restaurants open late, and the central attractions are all within a ten-minute walk. The rooms open onto an interior patio, so they stay quiet even though the house is on the main road. Can't recommend it enough.

Raúl was one of the kindest people we met in Mexico. We enjoyed catching up with him each evening about our day, and he made a real effort to communicate with me despite my mediocre Spanish. His suggestions for things to see and places to eat were great. One restaurant just around the corner, Tata Mezcalería + Cocina de Autor, became one of our favorite meals of the trip. Casa Limonchelo was a perfect base for two American girlfriends traveling together. The roughly 500-year-old property is gorgeous and right in Morelia's historic center, on a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The neighborhood felt safe, was easy to explore on foot, and put everything we wanted to see within reach. We paid an extremely affordable rate for two nights, breakfast included. It was delicious, with fresh fruit and juice, yogurt and granola, bread and pastries with butter and jam. Heartier items were available for an extra fee, and Raúl surprised us with corundas, traditional Michoacán snacks similar to tamales. A few things to know: our room had no climate control and felt a bit stuffy, even though the nights were cool to cold. We booked a room with a private bathroom, though some rooms share, and while ours was spacious, the bathroom and shower were tiny. Also, leaving the door open for long could let in mosquitoes and flies. I ended up covered in bug bites. Despite those things, I'd recommend this hotel without reservation.
