I loved being able to make a quick meal on the rooftop whenever I didn’t want to head out. The owner was kind, thoughtful, and ready to help without hovering. With shops and plenty of restaurants close by, and historic Morelia just a few blocks away, the location was ideal. I had a wonderful stay.

We’d happily book Casa Xola again on another trip to Morelia. The rooftop garden felt like a little oasis, and watching all the hummingbirds was a lovely bonus. Arlie was a terrific host, with plenty of suggestions for seeing the city. The rooms were lovely too, and the plaza is just a short walk away.

We had a spotless room, lovely breakfasts, and friendly, personal service during film festival week. The place is close to the cathedral, festival events, and good food, but still quiet, which is a rare combination. Taxis and Uber were easy to get for places beyond walking distance. We’ll be back. Just be aware that every room is up at least one long flight of stairs.

I really liked having coffee among the plants and flowers on the rooftop, watching butterflies and hummingbirds. There are sunny and shaded spots, plus a kitchen area for making coffee or food. Gloria keeps the terrace and rooms spotless, and the beds are comfortable, with good shower pressure and easy-to-adjust water temperature. Arleigh also makes great breakfasts and takes care that guests have what they need. I’ve stayed twice, in March and again in June for about five days each time. Casa Xola is a calm, leafy place in the middle of Morelia, and I’d recommend it to solo travelers, couples, or families. It’s good value, and the terrace is a nice place to get out of the cold northern winter. Morelia is still a hidden gem, with great film and music festivals and without the tourism overload of some other towns. It’s well worth staying several days. Five to seven days would be a good start, with time for day trips such as Pátzcuaro.

We loved our stay at Casa Xola. The rooms were great, the breakfast was good, and the staff were amazing. It’s right in the town center, and having safe parking for residents was a real help since parking in Morelia can be difficult. Everyone there was accepting and very LGBT friendly.
