The service was great, and the location was awesome. The room itself wasn't the best I've had.

The location was a real plus. It's under a 10-minute walk to the cathedral, with lots of places to eat and shop nearby. The neighborhood felt safe, and there was plenty of street parking since the hotel isn't right in the City Center. The condition of the property was disappointing. It seemed among the more run-down choices around Morelia's City Center, with unrepaired water damage on the ceilings and appliances that were dirty or partly broken. There was visible mold in the bathroom, no toiletries, and a rusty showerhead coated with calcium and lime buildup. We also found small gnats around the room. Staff friendliness varied. Morning front desk workers and room attendants were welcoming, as were some dining room servers, though others seemed rushed. The evening desk worker was inattentive and unhelpful. On our third night we asked for another toilet paper roll and were told every room only gets one, and we'd have to wait until morning. Morning staff said that was wrong and we should have received it right away.

The food and service were highlights. Breakfast came with toast, fruit like papaya, watermelon, and bananas, plus coffee. There wasn't a lot of it, but it was good. The hot cakes were fluffy and flavorful, and the chilaquiles had especially good Mexican flavor. Other meals on the property were fairly priced for the quality. Staff were courteous and professional, and quickly replaced our broken microwave when we asked. The rule against unannounced visitors also made the place feel secure. Our third-floor suite had three bedrooms and one bathroom, with enough room for our family of five or six and a cozy, homey feel. The kitchen is compact but works for basic meal prep. WiFi was decent most of the time, though it cut out now and then. A couple of things could be better: the stairs to the third floor have short steps and poor lighting at night, which could be risky for children, older guests, or anyone with mobility issues. Water pressure in the bathroom was a bit low, too. Even with those issues, we had a pleasant stay, and the attentive staff, security, and reasonable prices make it a solid family option in Morelia.

The breakfast downstairs is so good and affordable. Try the Uchepos with the fresh, tasty tomato salsa. If you miss breakfast or want lunch, there's also a place three doors to the right of the Hotel where I used to eat all the time, and the food is very good. Everything is within walking distance. Ask first if the rooftop is open, because the view is one of the best in the city. I've got a lot of history here. The Hotel used to be apartments, and I lived there as a child. I stayed in my old room again, #3, the Van Gogh, and the nostalgia hit hard. I almost didn't want to leave. I hope I can buy my apartment back someday soon. I miss it so much and want to live in Morelia half the year. For the price, location, suite size, and beauty, this is easily my favorite place to stay. The staff are lovely, always friendly, and go out of their way to help you feel comfortable and safe. The rooms are colorful and feel like home, and the Hotel has a pleasant vibe.

For what it costs, this long-running little hotel is hard to beat, though it could use some updates. Morelia's mild climate means there isn't central air conditioning, but the rooms have fans and individual heaters for winter. The on-site restaurant was still closed while the city was just starting to reopen, so getting a cold drink meant walking a little.
