Villas Del Sol Hotel

At €170 for two nights, I expected higher standards, though maybe our expectations were the issue. We were given a small bungalow with two separate rooms and three queen beds. The mattress was great and we slept really well. There was no air conditioning, but we didn't need it. Wi-Fi only worked well in the living room. We didn't use the pool, though it is there. The place is right beside a busy main road, so you can hear traffic, and I think it would be better described as a motel. The furniture and interior felt like stepping into the 1970s Soviet Union or ex-Yugoslavia, and the photos on Agoda didn't match the accommodation we got. They advertised it as 2.5 km from downtown, but it's more like 9 km. The hotel badly needs renovation.

We had a terrible stay. The room was dirty, including dirty paper already left in the bathroom. They charged us for breakfast without saying it cost extra. Then a glass juice jug broke while I was pouring my drink, and they made me pay an extra 600 pesos for it, even though I didn't break it on purpose. Customer service was bad, and the Wi-Fi didn't work in the villas.

For the price, I thought this was a great place, and I believe it was under $70. Breakfast was included, though it was only okay, with little food and not much variety. I think they also serve lunch and dinner, but those cost extra. Our room was close to the street, so it got a bit noisy at night, though there are rooms farther back. I'd recommend staying here for the value.

The grounds are nice, and the staff were friendly and listened politely when we complained. They also gave us the free breakfast, so those are the reasons for the two stars. The room was worse than dorm rooms I've had in hostels, and the bed and pillows felt like bricks. We paid $832 pesos for one night, with no breakfast included, despite booking.com saying it was included. For somewhere in the middle of nowhere, it was overpriced. The town center and pyramids are both about 30 minutes away by car. The pictures are very misleading. The pool looks more like a big puddle than somewhere you could swim. The photographer deserves credit for making it look so good. Booking.com calls this a four-star hotel, and I don't know who told them that, but it's a lie.
