Villa Mercedes Palenque

We stayed one night in December 2025, the week before high season. Waking up among the trees to birdsong felt refreshing. It was one of the nicest hotels we stayed at on our travels through the Yucatán. The room was clean, with working hot water and plenty of pressure. Staff were helpful, though Spanish came in handy; some could also understand and speak English. There's a restaurant serving all three meals. The downside was the price of food and drinks, which seemed high for the quality. The location is great for the archaeological site: the meeting point takes around 15-20 minutes to walk to, or five minutes by taxi.

After a day exploring the Palenque ruins, the pool was a relaxing place to unwind. The hotel is close to the archaeological site, with spacious, clean, comfortable rooms and well-kept grounds full of greenery. Its lush, jungle-like surroundings felt peaceful and immersive. The staff were friendly and attentive, making it a lovely balance of nature, convenience, and comfort.

You could hear whole conversations from neighboring rooms, it was that loud. Breakfast service was awful too: five buses were leaving at once, and the meal turned into a fiasco. Our toilet had human waste in it when we checked in, and the floor wasn't swept or mopped for three days. I don't recommend this hotel.

The hotel and rooms were beautiful, and the restaurant was great. The pool bar was the problem: it had no drinks on hand, so the person working there had to fetch them from the restaurant. Each time took almost half an hour. It was also a very long walk to our room.
