There’s good light, internet, a small desk, and a fridge in my room. There’s nowhere to sit and read in the room, but there are tables and chairs outside. Only two rooms have kitchens, there’s no food on site, and nobody is here around the clock. They provide a small bottle of water to refill, though when I asked, they gave me a pitcher. For so few amenities, it’s way, way overpriced. I’m paying $93 per night USD, more than apartments I’ve stayed in. I wouldn’t stay here again at that price. Maybe I’d consider a room with a kitchen at an affordable monthly rate. At what they charged, I feel taken advantage of.

We really liked our stay and will come back. The staff were super helpful, waited outside to welcome us, and showed us the property. Finding the place was the first challenge, since the directions sent us down a blocked street and we had to reroute. We’d accidentally booked a room without AC. The staff helped again by switching us to one with a portable AC unit, no problem. Check before booking, since not every room has AC.

The location is great, right across from an old Spanish aqueduct. There’s a market, restaurants, and two lovely parks a few blocks away, and the main plaza and walking street are a ten-minute walk. It’s a small, clean, quiet hotel run by very friendly people. There’s an indoor patio, a rooftop terrace, and many rooms have small kitchenettes. They now offer guests free breakfast in the connected restaurant, and it’s excellent.

The staff made us feel welcome throughout our four-night December stay at Casa Los Arquitos. We arranged things over WhatsApp, and Maritza responded quickly to questions, changes to our plans, and airport pickup. Pablo picked us up, and both he and Maritza speak English well. We were upgraded to a suite with a kitchenette, fridge, microwave, cutlery, pots, and a pan. The very large bed was comfortable, and the sofa bed, which opened to a double, was unexpectedly comfortable too. It was quiet at night, outside the high-traffic, noisy part of town but still walkable to cafes, restaurants, and key attractions. Santo Domingo Temple and the cultural museum are within a five-minute walk, while the cathedral and town square are 13 minutes away. Breakfast was great, but it’s only served from 9 to 10 a.m. There was toast with white and wheat bread, butter and jelly, good coffee, yogurt and granola, and fresh fruit platters. Without us asking, they gave me coffee and sugar so I could make coffee in the room before 9. There’s also a cafe two minutes away that opens at 8. I’d definitely recommend Casa Los Arquitos B&B for its warm welcome and very good location.

The location and Wi-Fi are good, but for the money, everything else feels below par. The bathroom faucet doesn’t work, and the toilet flush valve sticks most times. Luckily, I was married to a plumber and knew how to sort it out. There were no utensils or cups in the kitchen, either. It’s all in the details. I paid half as much in Mexico City’s historic district and had a better experience. This stay cost 9194mxn for 7 nights.
