Hotel Casa del Sótano

The bathroom was tiny and cramped, which was my only complaint. The bedroom, though, was clean, the bed comfortable, the AC good, and the Wi-Fi reliable. The location puts you close to bars and restaurants but far enough away that nightlife noise doesn’t carry. Itzel and the staff were courteous and polite, and offered good suggestions for places to go and things to do. Thank you!

The rooftop spa was the best part for me. I used it twice a day, and the view of Santo Domingo is spectacular. I only wish it stayed open past seven. Breakfast was great, especially with Yvonne serving. She was friendly and attentive, and the front desk staff were courteous and helpful. On my first visit to the city, I also appreciated the ideal location near the Center without the noise. The colorful rooms were well maintained.

The hotel is easy to reach, close to the city center, and surrounded by nice cafes and restaurants. I loved its authentic country style and the old, worn-in feel. It’s good value for money. The staff were super friendly and amazing. One of them offered us a day tour to a cheese-making class at his friend’s place in Oaxaca on his morning off. That turned out to be the most amazing day of our whole trip, and we really appreciate how kind he was to make it so memorable.

The restaurant breakfast was delicious. The rooms are small, but we barely spent time in ours. It was a relaxed, low-maintenance stay, and fairly close to downtown.
