Hotel Nacional

Right in the city center, this older hotel has small, clean rooms. Wifi was almost nonexistent. It's pretty much a bare-necessities place, maybe a little overpriced, but you're right in the middle of everything.

The rooms are basic but comfortable, and the price is reasonable. Great location.

The Internet was patchy and often didn't reach my room, and music from the bar next door was loud, though it stopped before midnight. Still, I enjoyed being in the middle of this busy, more authentic district. It feels like a trip right out of college, and brought back memories. The hotel faces two very busy markets with amazing food options. My king room was tiny, but it did have a king-sized bed and a balcony overlooking the street. Very spartan, but clean, and housekeeping did a great job. Hotels.com and Expedia offered no price advantage over booking at the hotel. At least this time I got the room I'd booked six months ahead. I probably wouldn't stay again.

We moved downstairs for an extra night and got a lovely, spacious room with a big bathroom. It was very clean. The street noise and someone's music or TV made it a bit hard to sleep at first, but it did settle down. Our first room had a balcony and a huge bed about the size of two singles, though the room was a little tight and the bathroom door was tiny. Surprisingly, the street wasn't very noisy there. The staff were so lovely, and the terrace is nice. There's not much of a view, but you can look around and catch the sunset behind the hills.
