Hotel Puuc

The pool was larger than I expected and well kept in a small garden at the back. Getting there from our room meant crossing the huge parking lot, though, and there were no hammocks or loungers, just regular plastic chairs at plastic tables. You can get breakfast at the restaurant next door. We booked and arrived on the same day, and that all went smoothly. Payment is cash only. It’s more of a motel, with a very large parking area. Our room was basic, small, and old, but clean enough. The bathroom and mattress were so worn and stained that cleaning probably couldn’t hide their age. There was no fridge, and the lighting was bright and uncomfortable, with no warm or bedside light. That made the room feel less pleasant and brought out every flaw. The price was low, though, and the AC worked okay. Shower pressure was extremely weak, so washing my long hair took ages. It’s affordable and fine for a night or two, but the room’s condition and comfort could have been better.

The pool was clean and never crowded, and for the location and price I think this place is a good deal. Hotel Puuc is the best hotel I’ve stayed at in Oxkutzcab. It’s affordable, around 23 USD with air conditioning, and sometimes there’s hot water. The wifi cuts out pretty often, but it’s fast when it works. The hotel restaurant has a strong, steady connection, and nearby Jabad cafe has very fast wifi too. Just don’t expect the same amenities you’d get at a 4-star hotel in a big city :)

It was a little noisy, though our room faced the street and we hadn’t asked for a quiet one. Maybe we could have requested one of the suites on the other side. The service was friendly, and the room was clean and comfortable. They left us a bottle of water every day, and I liked the restaurants too. It opens at 7am and has everything you need. Still, I’d recommend staying here!

It’s close to Centro, with a clean pool area and plenty of parking. There’s a restaurant on site for breakfast and lunch. Emilio speaks excellent English.
