Hotel Ikzam Palenque

The Wi-Fi was good and the drinks were okay, though expensive, which is probably to be expected in that area. The breakfast had limited choice and wasn't great quality. It was inconvenient carrying bags to the second floor with no lift and nobody to help. The windows facing the hallway felt awkward. The phone rang loudly all night, sounding like it was right outside our room, and woke us every 20 minutes. It's an okay hotel, but that really took away from the stay.

We got there pretty late and left early the next day, but the rooms were clean and breakfast was fine. The employees were helpful and friendly, and the pool looks cool.

After a 10-hour bus journey, we arrived with a booking confirmation, only to be told they had no reservation for us. The front desk staff were useless. She looked worried and didn't say anything, pretending to search for the booking until I finally asked if they were sold out. She confirmed they were. Just be honest about whether you can accommodate us so we can find somewhere else. They weren't sorry or helpful. We'd also emailed the day before and got no response, another chance to be upfront about our booking that they missed. Extremely disappointed.

The room is very clean, with good-quality bedding and a firm but comfortable bed. The shower is superb, with plenty of hot water and a great flow and spray. The pool and sun lounge area are clean and comfortable, set in a courtyard among trees with birds overhead. The pool has two levels. The entrance is pleasant and convenient off the road, and reception staff were friendly and welcoming. I've only just arrived at Hotel Chablis, but I already know this is my kind of hotel. I can't wait to stay another night, and I'm sure my husband and I will return. We could spend a week here without needing much else to do.
