I had the pleasure of spending three incredible days at this beautiful, eco-friendly retreat, and I can't recommend it highly enough. The property is thoughtfully designed around sustainability. The food used fresh, locally sourced ingredients and homegrown produce, and it was clear the resort takes pride in reducing its environmental impact. Every meal was delicious (we ate there five times in three days), and the staff went out of their way to accommodate our individual dietary needs, including no meat. The spacious cabins were spotless and surrounded by trees, where we saw many birds and monkeys. Stargazing was one of our most memorable experiences. With clear skies and little light pollution, we could see planets that are very hard to see back home. I highly recommend setting aside time to stargaze with the host. We also took a day trip to the nearby Palenque archaeological site, which was absolutely beautiful. It was the highlight of our two-week trip in southern Mexico, and in my opinion far more interesting than Chichenitza. On another day, we went bathing at the Roberto Barrios series of waterfalls, an excellent spot that isn't well publicized. Getting around was easy. The hotel made travel to and from the train station simple, and friendly staff met us at the platform. Their transfers to the Palenque site and other nearby places meant we didn't regret traveling without a car. Finally, the staff were wonderful. They speak excellent English and are always ready with a warm smile and helpful advice. If you're thinking of staying, I highly recommend arriving by train and spending at least three days here to enjoy the experience fully.

The accommodation and the family who care for it are a wonderful find. The houses are in the middle of the jungle, surrounded by nature, and everything at the hotel is designed to be in harmony with the environment. Even the food is homegrown, and it was some of the best we had on our trip. The staff are especially warm. When we had transportation problems, they helped us right away with every resource available. The houses are superbly equipped and very, very clean. Even with several other guests, it feels like you have the place to yourself. The hotel's own transport can take you to the Palenque ruins and pick you up again at any time; the ride takes about 15 minutes. We didn't have a car during our stay, but you can also reach the hotel by taxi. All in all, it was a really great stay, 10/10, and we would definitely recommend it to anyone.

The management has created such a beautiful, high-quality experience. It's exceptional. The restaurant is delicious and thoughtful, and we looked forward to eating there every day. The setting is peaceful, and the service is unlike anything we've experienced. It feels like they truly care about their guests. They knew when to bring us mosquito repellent, offer an ice block on hot days, or create charming moments, like showing us the moon through a telescope. They even offered us a packed lunch when we missed breakfast. Stay here in Palenque!

We were a family of two adults and two teenagers and had a great three-night stay at Winika Alterra. It's a family-run ranch hotel. Elena, her dad, and all the staff were extremely friendly. The rooms are simple but comfortable, set in a spacious, colorful bungalow with a spotless private bathroom. There's a terrace where you can relax. The swimming pool is natural and uses no chemicals. A network of plants filters the water. The food is local, and sometimes organic, such as the eggs. The small suggested menu changes every day. The duck meat raised at Winika ranch was a big plus. If neither of the two options appealed to you or the kids, Elena was always ready to help. Our teenagers wanted pancakes every morning for breakfast, and they were so good. Elena was happy to make them each day. If you're looking for a place surrounded by nature, with howler monkeys in the nearby woods at night or early morning, along with butterflies and iguanas, this is the place. It's perfectly located for visiting the cascades and just outside the noisy, lively center of Palenque. Thanks again, Elena, for the warm welcome!

This is a family-owned place. Some of the best food I had on my entire trip was here. Much of it is grown locally on their own property. They have a natural pool with no chemicals, cleaned through plant filtration. The air-conditioned rooms are very clean and safe. I highly recommend stopping by for one night or several.
