Hotel Puerta Chichen

We got to Chichen Itza early and enjoyed it before the crowds arrived. The hotel is super close, and the staff are really kind. A wonderful place.

I can only speak to the restaurant. The service was really nice, and the food was fine, basic hotel fare. Our taxi driver pretty much forced us to come here. I don’t want to give it fewer stars because, for hotel food, it was perfectly acceptable.

The hotel is close to the Chichen-itza ruins, with motel-style parking right in front. It’s a spacious two-storey place, with big tropical gardens and a pool. The restaurant is good and rather elegant, and service in both the hotel and restaurant was excellent. It was charming to see the restaurant staff being trained to traditional European standards. Our room was big enough, the beds were comfortable, soft but still firm, and there were enough plugs and good lighting. Maid service came daily. As elsewhere in Yucatan, toilet paper goes in the covered bin beside the toilet. There was more than enough parking for the relatively small number of guests, though this hotel deserves more visitors. The maid left us a lovely pair of towel birds decorated with flowers.

My 10-year-old son was a big fan of the buffet. It was simple, but tasty and well priced. We also liked the pool, and the room was very comfortable. The front desk staff were kind and helpful throughout. It’s a great base for visiting Chichen-Itzá early. Arrive at 8 AM to beat the crowds. We left valuables in our room and everything was fine. I’d seen a review claiming otherwise, but that wasn’t our experience.
