Antera Hotel & Residences

We ended up on the residence side after the music from the club down the block kept going until about 3 AM in the hotel. That move made the rest of our stay perfect. My family and I were there for a little over a week, and it was one of the most comfortable places we stayed on the trip. The staff were kind, friendly, and very accommodating. The balcony has lovely views and really gives you a feel for Playa Del Carmen. I could sit there all day watching the world go by. The area felt very safe and friendly, with 24-hour patrols from Policia Solidaridad, and there are lots of places within easy walking distance. Guests can use the gated underground parking garage around the corner. The kitchen is well stocked with dishes, plates, and utensils, and the bed was one of the best I've slept on in a hotel. It was comfortable for our family and very affordable. I'm grateful we found it and would happily recommend it.

I was stuck there for all five nights, and none of them were restful. Music from the nightclub right beside the hotel was so loud that sleeping was impossible, and it continued until around 5:00 AM. I contacted the hotel during the night and again in the daytime. They said they couldn't help and wouldn't give me anything in writing, even though the noise issue has come up in earlier reviews. The hotel description doesn't clearly mention it. I checked in expecting somewhere comfortable, but this was the worst hotel stay I've had. If nighttime sleep matters to you or you're sensitive to noise, I strongly suggest booking somewhere else.

At 3:30 in the morning the music was still loud, and I still couldn't sleep. The hotel's reply was useless to me: empty words, no responsibility, no action, and no compensation. Once they'd been paid, it felt like they had no interest in providing good service. That's the hospitality here. AVOID AVOID AVOID. I asked at check-in for a room away from the street and was given one on the street anyway. I couldn't sleep for five nights. They said they'd move me, but I heard nothing more after checking in. Staff and management seem not to care, even though past reviews show this has been a known issue for a long time and nothing is being done. It's a pity, because the hotel could be nice. Don't make my mistake and hope you'll be one of the few lucky guests in a quieter room. Never again.

The noise made it impossible to rest: partying went on until 3:00 AM, then heavy traffic could be heard from 7:00 AM because the sound insulation is so poor. Our children were put in a separate building, which felt unreasonable and unsafe for a family. We came from a hotel in Cancun where things had been calm and enjoyable, so the contrast was awful. We booked for four guests, then added and paid for a fifth. The hotel still wouldn't give that person a proper bed, just a small sofa chair, which isn't a bed by any standard. One room had a jacuzzi, but there was no hot water, so it couldn't be used. Charging for another guest without providing a real bed and advertising an amenity that doesn't work felt misleading. The location is central, but I wouldn't recommend the property, especially to families.
